Second consecutive victory gets Espargaro within 2 points of the championship lead

Pol Espargaró notched his second consecutive win of the season at Le Mans after walking the top step of the podium two weeks ago in Jerez. The rider of the Tuenti Racing Derbi team set a mean race-long pace at the front with Nico Terol and was finally able to pull away from his rival in the closing laps. After this latest positive result Pol is now second in the 125/MotoGP standings, two points from Terol in the wake of the French Grand Prix. Efrén Vázquez, for his part, took a magnificent fourth place despite a weekend of set-up problems and has the same rank in the championship, just one point from third spot.

1. POL ESPARGARÓ
“It was a fun but tricky race and pretty quickly I found myself alone at the front with Nico Terol; we both pushed to the limit right until the flag. Nico went for it at the beginning, I guess with softer tyres than mine and I had to take a few risks so that he wouldn´t get away. Finally I was able to pass him and I wasn´t sure who would win until the second half of the last lap. It took a big effort to win this race, but now we have two in a row and we will keep working to build this campaign, although we have to take into account that it´ll be a long championship and as important to not mistakes and lose points as much as it is to collect trophies. The whole team is very strong and we must continue on this path to really achieve some great results this season.”

4. EFRÉN VÁZQUEZ
“I am really happy because for the race we found a solution to all the technical problems we were having this weekend. I would have snatched a fourth position out of your hands when I lined up on the third row of grid. I felt good in the race and was part of the fight in the second group for third place on the podium because Pol and Nico were a step ahead of everyone at this GP. I can go home satisfied because we took a lot of points here and I feel rewarded because not for one moment did we, everyone in the team, throw in the towel.”
