Another first row start for Espargaro

 In News

Pol Espargaró will launch from second position on the grid for the fourth time in succession this season, losing the watch award for Pole Position by just 21 thousandths of a second. ‘Polyccio’ led the time-screens until the very last moment of the session when German Sandro Cortese used a tow from Nico Terol to grab the top spot. The Tuenti Racing Derbi had been in the pits at the conclusion of the chrono recovering from an innocuous fall in which he suffered no ill-effects. Efrén Vázquez also hit the floor in the closing stages but had marked the eighth fastest lap and will now enter the starting grid tomorrow on the second row.

2. POL ESPARGARÓ, 1.58.336
“I am happy even though I lost pole position and at the last moment I also crashed; overall I’m pleased with my speed and rhythm and I think we are well prepared for the race. The track is really slippery and when I pushed for a better time I went flying! In those few seconds I was thinking ‘please don’t hurt!’ When I came into the pits I was sure I would lose first place and another rider would get lucky. The Pole Position watch continues to elude me but it will be good to go from second if I end up winning like in Jerez and Le Mans.”

8. EFRÉN VÁZQUEZ, 1.59.341
“I started the session quite well, working with Pol, but halfway through I had a mechanical problem that threw my concentration a little bit. When I returned to the track I couldn’t really ride like I wanted; I lost some grip on the rear wheel and threw myself down the road. Luckily I wasn’t hurt and still can start from the second row of the grid. I am sure we can have a good race tomorrow.”
