Third row start for Faubel at Mugello

 In Moto2

Hector Faubel will start tomorrow’s Moto2 race at Mugello from the third row of the grid, after a late charge during this afternoon’s qualifying session saw him jump up the order to 12th place. His Marc VDS teammate, Scott Redding, was disappointed to end the session 28th fastest, after running in the top 15 early in qualifying.

Faubel made a number of changes to the set-up of his Suter MMX machine during this morning’s free practice and the first part of this afternoon’s qualifying session. As a result, the 26-year-old Spanish rider continued to improve his lap time throughout qualifying, before posting his fastest lap with just minutes remaining. Faubel is confident that a top ten finish is a realistic target in tomorrow’s race.

Hector Faubel #55: 12th – 1’1’56.443
“I’m pretty happy with the result today. Trevor, my Crew Chief, and the whole team have worked really hard to get the bike how I want it, and we’re finally there now. I was lucky to get a clear lap at the end, because a few riders either crashed or ran on and there were yellow flags showing on my out lap. Luckily, when I came round on my last flying lap they were gone, so I was able to get my head down and post my fastest time in a good group of riders. I think a points scoring finish is a realistic aim tomorrow; if I finish inside the top ten then I’ll be very happy.”

Michael Bartholemy: Team Manager
“The situation today isn’t so good, but I’m happy that Hector has given us our best grid position of the season so far and I hope he can capitalise on this tomorrow. If he can get away with the front group then he definitely has the race pace to stay with them, so a top ten finish is a real possibility.”
