First Moto2 points for Hector Faubel at Mugello
Hector Faubel gave the Marc VDS Racing Team another points scoring finish, with a hard fought race to 12th place in today’s Italian Moto2 Grand Prix. Scott Redding was not so fortunate, dropping down to 21st position at the chequered flag after suffering knee and dehydration problems in today’s extremely hot conditions.
Faubel, starting from 12th position on the grid, got away from the line with a group of riders including Alex Debon, Julian Simon, Yuki Takahashi and Alex De Angelis and then battled with the same riders for eighth position throughout the race. The 26-year-old Spaniard moved to the front of the group on occasion, but slightly low gearing on his Suter MMX machine meant the following riders were easily able to draft past him on the ultra-long Mugello main straight. At the chequered flag, Faubel had to settle for 12th position and his first four Moto2 championship points.
Hector Faubel #55 – 12th Position
“I’m happy to have finally scored my first championship points today, but I’m a little disappointed not to have finished higher. I got a good start and both the bike and tyres were working really well. I was involved in a battle throughout the race with the same group of riders, all of us fighting for eighth place. I got to the front of the group early in the race, but my bike was geared a little bit too low, which meant I was on the rev limiter three quarters of the way down the straight and it was easy for the others to draft past me. But, overall I’m pretty happy. We’ve made a step forward with the bike, I’m much more comfortable on it and I’ve scored my first points. I’m looking forward to Silverstone now, where I hope to improve even further.”
Michael Bartholemy: Team Manager
“Hector rode a great race today, battling with the likes of Debon and Simon, both of whom have finished on the Moto2 podium previously. He is still missing time on the bike at the moment, but today’s result will be a big boost to his confidence going into the next race at Silverstone.”
