3rd & 5th for Espargaro and Vazquez in Italian heat

Pol Espargaró scored his third consecutive podium result with the bottom step of the rostrum today at Mugello (Italy) after previously notching victories at Jerez and Le Mans. The Tuenti Racing Derbi representative began the race fighting with Nico Terol and then in a four-man group with Marc Márquez and Bradley Smith joining the tussle. After this result Espargaró maintains second position in the 125cc World Championship standings and lays six points from first place. Efrén Vázquez made a great start and tried to enter the leading group but ended up jostling in the second gaggle of riders to eventually obtain fifth spot; the same ranking that he currently holds in the series points table.

3. POL ESPARGARÓ: “I expected a finale like this even though it seemed at the start of the race that we could breakaway with Terol. First Nico went and after I tried to avoid that Márquez and Smith could join us but in the end it wasn’t possible. I studied the group and tried to push through to the front, second or third, but there wasn’t really an option to get into a position to win before the finish line. It was a fun race, it went well for me and in the end I could take a podium, which is a great result for the championship. I had some really hard rivals today and I have to congratulate them. Now we must keep on working so that we will be in a position to win again next time.”

5. EFRÉN VÁZQUEZ: “I started well and managed to get to second but I could not follow the speed of Nico and Pol and they left me behind slightly. After that I was fighting with Krummenacher and Rabat, without being able to keep touch with the leaders. In the end I took fifth place; a good result after a weekend with some problems and in which I also started a little further back on the grid.”
