Technical problems hinder Elias in qualifying

 In Moto2, News

Team Gresini had a difficult qualifying session for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, unable to progress sufficiently from a tough first day. Toni Elias clocked only the 18th fastest time of the session, and will start from the fifth row for the Moto2 race. The result is a disappointment for the Spaniard, who was also hit by a lack of fuel on the final lap of his quest for pole –in contrast to the forecast. The World Championship leader made slight improvements on Saturday, but nowhere near as radical as he would have liked.

Toni Elias ( 18th 2’11” 050 ): β€œWe had a problem that we have not yet been able to solve, but unfortunately these are things that happen in racing. We put in lap after lap today without finding the answer. It will be extremely important for us to look to improve our race pace tomorrow, because it wasn’t at all good today. Starting from the fifth row means that it will be essential to get a better feeling with the bike in order to make up ground. I hope to get off well and not let the riders at the front get too far away from me. I’m a fighter, but a good start will be equally as important.”

Fausto Gresini: β€œThis is the worst qualifying session that we’ve had since the start of the year, and I’m certainly not happy, but it is what it is. We had a tough one in Mugello as well, but we came back strong at that track. We just haven’t found the right way here yet. It is a tough moment, but we have to try and keep calm and continue to work with the same intensity. We have won before and we will win again, so we are relaxed.” ο»Ώ
