It’s now been confirmed that Axel Pons won’t be able to ride at his home Grand Prix in Catalunya this weekend.

The son of team owner Sito Pons crashed in the qualifying session at Assen last Friday and broke the radius in both arms. Further examination at the Dexeus clinic in Barcelona today showed the true extend of the injuries and the doctors in charge ruled him out from participating in the next Moto2 race in Montmelo.
Axel’s injuries require both his wrists to be immobilised for the recovery process which will probably take three weeks according to the medics. Subsequently Axel would also have to miss the next GP in Germany.

Axel Pons: “For me the confirmation of these two fractures is a huge disappoinment, because it big hopes for my home Grand Prix, above all because I though I was able to fight with the best ones. This season for me serves as a confirmation that I can do it and I wanted to achieve a good result as a ThankYou and to give back some of the confidence and the support I received from everyone.”
