Elias starts home GP in perfect form

Toni Elias proved definitely that he is over the disappointment of Mugello and Silverstone with a dominant display in the opening free practice of his home Grand Prix in Catalunya today. The local favourite was on the pace from start to finish, showing his typical determination as well as plenty of focus – traits he will have to maintain over the next two days as the rest of the field chase him down.

Toni Elias ( 1st 1’ 48” 425) “I am happy to start out like this at my home track. It is much better than Mugello and Silverstone, where I had disastrous first sessions and was a long way from the top. Obviously we still have a lot of work to do and we need to find more traction in the fast corners. It is sure to be a long and tough weekend but our objective is to keep working as we have today, do well in qualifying and put ourselves in the frame for the race on Sunday. I’ll have a lot of people supporting me on Sunday but even with just a few here today I was really motivated. ”

Fausto Gresini “I am very happy for Toni and the team because this result is a good sign for this Grand Prix. We have started out on the right foot even though we know there is still work to do to be competitive and in a position to fight for the win. I have to pay Toni my compliments today and the team too because they all worked well and now we have to continue in the same way tomorrow and on Sunday because this is an important race at a crucial part of the season. ”
