Espargaro heartbroken but determined after Sachsenring crash

A day of bad luck for Tuenti Racing Derbi at the 125cc/MotoGP Grand Prix of Germany as Pol Espargaró crashed in the closing stages while leading the race and fighting for the win with Marc Márquez and eighth position belonged to Efrén Vázquez, who managed to take points despite failing to find a rhythm around the Sachsenring circuit. Espargaró took part in another exciting face-off with Márquez, that began on the seventh circulation and lasted until the final lap and a half, when ´Polyccio´ ran slightly wide, touched the grass and was pitched onto the ground exiting a fast turn. Beforehand the duo had needed to overhaul a gaggle of riders who had tried to capitalise on an unsettled situation due to a damp track. Efrén, for his part, had used a cut front tyre but couldn´t set a decent pace and was unable to challenge for the podium place he hoped for.

8th EFRÉN VÁZQUEZ
“We took quite a few points and that was important on a complicated day like today, in which I couldn´t find any decent feeling with the track. On the starting grid we decided to go for an intermediate front tyre but when we started the race I had a couple of big scares and I decided to be cautious to avoid a crash. It felt like a long and defensive sprint and I was hoping for mistakes from the riders in front but they never really arrived. This wasn´t our weekend however we are only half way through the season and we will work hard to be protagonists in the coming races.”

POL ESPARGARÓ, DNF, crash
“I made a small mistake and paid so much for it. I was searching for the limit to go faster; I touched the grass for just a moment and it sent me flying. I tried to get going again to at least grab a point but the bike wouldn´t start. The only positive thing about this is that I came out of it unhurt. Up until the fatal moment it had been a great race and I had a genuine chance to win, but it wasn´t meant to be and now we must work so hard to regain ground in the championship. Today was a great shame and feels like a slap in the face, although there are eight races left and there is no way I am going to throw in the towel.”
