Excellent 5th place for Julián Simón in difficult Sepang race

 In Moto2, News

The drops of rain that had started to fall during the last few laps of the Moto3 class had turned into a torrential downpour that delayed the start of the Moto2 race, which started on a completely wet track.

Blusens Avintia rider Julián Simón, who started from the 10th position had a good start and, even more importantly, a very good first lap after which he lead the race in front of De Angelis, Smith and Luthi. Julián could keep the lead of the leading group, which turned into a trio, for a couple of laps, with De Angelis and Rea already opening a gap to their persecutors. But the asphalt started to dry off and Julián lost a couple of positions until he was running in 7th and 8th place.

9 laps before the end it started to lightly rain again and Julián was able to fight back, put in the fastest lap and close up to his rivals. With a now very heavy rain, the Blusens Avintia rider could hold on to his position, and shortly after, the race was red flagged with six laps remaining. A very good ride by Julián Simón who could achieve some of his objectives for this GP.

I’m happy with the result. I would have loved to have continued for a bit longer because in the wet we always go very well, but the conditions kept changing quickly and it was very complicated. In yesterday’s crash the chassis broke and I had to go out with another slightly different one, and I didn’t have the same good feeling that I had Friday and Saturday in the wet. But generally, I’m happy because I did a very good first lap and got back to leading a race. There’s still a few things to improve but I think in Australia we can have another good result.
