Vinales Race JerezIt’s been a fantastic end to the race weekend for Maverick Viñales and Team Calvo at Jerez. The team’s work was focused on the race and today it showed on the track as Vinales stuck with the leading group and started pushing, but after completing two thirds of the race distance a red flag stopped proceedings, handing Viñales his first win of the season as well as the lead in the championship, four points ahead of compatriot Luis Salom.

Teammate Ana Carrasco was much less fortunate. The young rider was in the hunt for points when she crashed out after coming together with another rider. An unfortunate end to her great performance, but another lession to take away in her first season in the championship.

Maverick Viñales #25 – 1º “Winning in Jerez is something very special in front of the Spanish fans. It’s a shame the race had to end so early, because I couldn’t enjoy it with the crowd. I felt very good and had a few more tenths in the bag for the final laps. This win is very good for me, but also for the team and together we keep moving forward in every race. We are leading the championship, but we can’t lose our nerves and have to keep working the same way, without thinking of the title, and enjoy.”

Ana Carrasco #22 “I was very close to the points and rode very fast, better than in the practice and for that I am very happy. I held back a bit for the final laps, saving the tyres, but the rider in front stopped and I couldn’t avoid running into him. I hope this is the first and last crash this year, but this is racing. In Le Mans I will be much stronger, because today I’ve seen that I can be there. Congratulations to Maverick for his deserved win.”
