Home race for Elias ends in the gravel after first corner collision

Elias CatalunyaToni Elias the Avintia Blusens Moto2 Team expected more from their home Grand Prix at Catalunya this weekend. It’s definitely not been a good weekend for the Spaniard who could not achieve the goal of being among the best. Although Saturday’s qualifying session left Toni a bit behind on the grid, in the warmup on Sunday he tested some solutions which gave him a good result and made optimistic for a possible good comeback in the race. But it was not possible. Elias arrived strongly at the first corner and was unable to avoid colliding with Cortese. Although he didn’t suffer any physical consequences, the damages to the bike made it impossible for him to continue and finish the race.

24 Toni Elías (DNF): “I didn’t start very well, I braked late and I couldn’t avoid colliding with Cortese. I almost avoided the collision, but just by a whisker it didn’t happen. Starting from so far behind there’s a higher possibility for things like this to happen. It was a shame, because in the warmup we tested a setup that worked well and I was very motivated for the race. Both the team and myself are pushing hard to get results, but at the moment they are not happening. Today was a shame, because I was convinced I could do a good race, but frankly, the problem is that we are qualifying very badly and we are forced to take risks at the start. In the previous race we were lucky but in the end I have to work to do good laptimes in the qualifying and the rest will be easier. I thank the team for the work they are doing and I turn my focus on the next race were surely things will go better.”
