It was a fierce battle in a group of five, but Ana Carrasco came out victorious on the finish of the Moto3 race of the Spanish Grand Prix. She claimed 23th in her home race. Carrasco’s Dutch team mate Scott Deroue didn’t make it to the end of the race. He crashed out in lap 14.

Ana Carrasco had a difficult start of the race, and lost five positions before the first corner. That forced her to fight her way up again, which wasn’t easy. Already in the early stages of the race she caught up with Azmi, Danilo and Grünwald, later on also Ferrari closed in on the group. The five of them battled it out to the finish, with Carrasco leading the pack for most of the time.

“Ana lost a bit too much in both qualifying and at the start,” RW Racing GP team manager Jarno Janssen said, “which caused frustration as well, but she showed character by fighting for the win in her group. Ana is a winner as well, but when she would ride more aggressively she would end five to ten positions up.”

“My start wasn’t too good and I lost some positions, which was pretty frustrating indeed. The group lost connection and I couldn’t do too much about it. But in that situation you have to try to make the best of it and fight for whatever is left. That’s what I did and it paid off. The position is somewhat disappointing, but it feels good to have won the battle.”
