Maverick Viñales and Luis Salom – the two Páginas Amarillas HP 40 riders – had a fantastic comeback during today’s race at the Sachsenring circuit.

They achieved a great result on a weekend that had been difficult up to the race. Maverick as well as Luis had many problems at the start of the weekend and couldn’t find the ideal setup.

Compared to last year, when they finished second and third in the Moto3 race, they struggled a lot more this time and had to work hard to be able to impress with a spectacular race today.

Viñales, who started from thirteenth place, lost two positions during the first lap, crossing the line in fifteenth place. For Luis, who started from twenty-fourth, it as even worse. He tried to pass another rider but had to go straight on in a corner, losing 8 places in the process.

Both Maverick and Luis concentrated in clawing back positions. With five laps to go, Viñales had fought his way into fourth place and decided to fight for a podium finish, but getting involved in a scrap with Italian rider Corsi made him lose contact to Rabat.

Meanwhile, Salom had been able to get up into fifteenth place. On the last lap, Viñales tried to pass Corsi but he couldn’t pull the maneuver off and lost almost one second, which also meant he lost his chance on a podium finish.

He had to settle for a good fifth place. Luis was able to overtake Axel Pons and finished the race in fourteenth place.

Maverick Viñales – 5th place
I think we’ve done a very good race. We were able to stage a good comeback, I enjoyed overtaking other riders a lot. I’d like to thank my team because they’ve worked very hard this weekend and this morning during warm-up we found a setup that worked for us.

Luis Salom – 14th place
The beginning of the weekend wasn’t that bad, Friday started more or less ok for us, but yesterday was very difficult for us and qualifying just went down the drain. It was a shame because we only got position 24 on the grid and this category is complicated and especially on a very winding track you notice. I made a mistake at the beginning of the race, I didn’t have enough space and I had to go straight on in the corner. Luckily I didn’t crash and could rejoin the race. Little by little I was able to make up positions and my finish position is ok considering I started so far back. So I think we’ve got to be satisfied with the work we did today.
