After the recent announcement that the British Grand Prix will soon move to Wales the MotoGP World Championship paddock will savour this weekend’s visit to Silverstone, the longest and one of the most historic circuits on the calendar.

In the Moto2 class the twelfth round of the campaign sees the battle for the title intensifying, with Mika Kallio closing in dangerously on his team-mate Tito Rabat at the top of the championship in a tussle that looks likely to go all the way to the end of the season.

The MAPFRE Aspar Team welcomes a new face into the garage at Silverstone, as Dakota Mamola makes his World Championship debut in place of Nico Terol. The American-Belgian currently competes with the team’s support as a GRT Racing rider in the Spanish Championship and although he takes Nico’s place this weekend the MAPFRE Aspar Team are hoping for a swift recovery for their official rider from the muscle fatigue problems that have dogged him this season.

Mamola has a top level team-mate to try and learn from in the shape of Jordi Torres, who is looking forward to bouncing back from an unlucky weekend at Brno at the circuit where he made his own debut with the team back in 2011.

Jordi Torres:
“Silverstone is a special track for me because I made my debut with the MAPFRE Aspar Team here in 2011. Three years later here I am as a full-time rider with the team and that is a source of great satisfaction for me. It is a great circuit, quite different to anything else in Europe, and the atmosphere is very special. This is a key point of the season for us, we need to give it everything we have now and get up to the front at all costs. We didn’t make the progress we had hoped for at Brno and I didn’t enjoy the race at all so the goal this weekend is to push as hard as possible from Friday and find a setting that allows us to ride on the limit in every session. We just need to get the bike turning better at full lean, otherwise we’re happy with it.”
