A drop in temperature led to a series of crashes in the early Moto3 race at Motegi this morning, with four riders down at the start and ten more during the following twenty laps.

It was a race of attrition for the 24 riders who made it to the end as Danny Kent pushed from pole with Jack Miller and Alex Márquez for company. A strange move from Kent on Miller left the way open for the Spaniard, with Efren Vázquez and Brad Binder also taking advantage for surprise podium finishes.

MAPFRE Aspar rider Juanfran Guevara will have to wait until next week in Australia to see his good recent work pay off after another unfortunate race day in Japan.

The Spanish youngster has been fast and consistent all weekend, perfecting his set-up and preparing himself in the best possible way only for luck to turn against him in the race.

After making a confident start today he was working hard to close down the gap to the lead group when he was thrown from his bike and out of the race.

Juanfran Guevara (DNF):
“I haven’t been thrown off the bike like that all season so it was a surprise today. I was one of a lot of riders to crash and it was a shame because we were having a great race, almost catching the lead group. I am annoyed but now we have to look at why it happened and learn from the mistakes. That is two races in a row that we have failed to finish but we have to keep our heads up and keep working in the same way to maintain the form we have shown recently. It is not enough to be fast and comfortable on the bike if we don’t come away with the result at the end, so that is the goal in Australia.”
