Again today the rain turned out to be the most troublesome aspect of the Jerez test. The track was open from 10am, and riders went round in wet conditions until almost 2pm -when it seemed that the asphalt would dry out. Just at that moment it began to drizzle, and the competitors would have to wait until the last hour of the day (from 5:00pm to 6:00pm) to ride on an almost fully dry track with slicks.

After closing three days of activity in Jerez, most teams now head to Valencia -where next week they will have two days to work from Monday to Tuesday.

The new adventure for the MAPFRE Aspar Team started superbly in Jerez, even though conditions did not help the riders over the last two days. Despite the precarious state of the asphalt, the riders repeated their spectacular performance with their new Mahindra chassis.

Both Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín greatly improved their times from one day to the next, having fun on every outing. The Italian set the the best time of the day in Moto3 (1.50.832), and Jorge Martín, was just few tenths off in second place.

Just a few months ago he was the Rookies Cup champion and now he is comparing favourably with the best riders in the world. Besides Bagnaia and Martin, Juanfran Guevara also improved his times from the second day, although he was more cautious. Guevara prefered to wait until the alencia test next week, at which conditions are forecast to be more favourable.

2nd Jorge Martín 1.51.087 (61 laps):
“From the early hours up to around midday we had to ride in the wet again. I used the time to adapting to the bike, finding the best riding position. I had a great time riding with Pecco and Juanfran. I’m already looking forward to next Monday at Valencia and to trying new things -hopefully in better weather. Although the track was not in good condition, at the end of the day we tried a soft tyre and already on the first lap I managed to lower my times from yesterday. It is very satisfying to see that every day we are evolving and gradually getting used to the new bike. I am very happy with both the bike and the team, who are helping me adjust to the new class.”

4th Juanfran Guevara 1.52.693 (43 laps):
“This morning we took the opportunity to gain some confidence in the wet. We also worked to try to adjust this new bike to the rain, then we decided to wait to see if the track would dry and if we could work at least a little on dry asphalt. With an hour to go before the end of the day, we went out with slicks -but we couldn’t trust the surface. On the last time out we noticed a slight dip in engine performance and we preferred to stop and not force things. Still, we were able to work out some electronic parameters on the final stints. Overall these two days have been quite unproductive for us.”
