An exciting and difficult race unfolded at the Andalusian track of Jerez today, the fourth round of the 2016 season taking place in front of thousands of wild fans. After a cold and misty morning, the sun broke through and near ideal conditions greeted the Moto2 riders on the grid. The protagonists sat, waiting for the start lights.

At the start, Miguel Oliveira was able to maintain his position and was able to edge his way into the group ahead after several laps.

Miguel, running at his ‘home’ race as Jerez is the closest circuit to Portugal, continued his great charge. Lap after lap he overtook his competitors and fenced his way from 15th to 6th. The 21 year old was on the cusp of the top five until, with just six laps to go, he lost the front at Turn 4 and his race ended in the gravel.

A double DNF did not reflect the potential and is no reward for the hard work done by Stefan Kiefer and his team. But now it’s time to analyse the data and focus on the French GP, starting on the 6th of May.

#44 Miguel OLIVEIRA – NC:
“For sure I did not expect this ending after such a great start. We fell trying to get into the top five, so for this reason I rate it as a positive race apart from falling. I made a step forward with my setting and team and improved in areas where I struggled during testing. I want to take the positives and carry them forward to the next race and get a good result.”
