The Dutch TT weekend ended on a sour note for Repsol rider Aron Canet, who leaves Assen without adding to his points tally. A crash in qualifying on Saturday left him low down the order at Assen and, after working his way up into the leading group in the race, another fall on Lap 7 brought his day to a premature conclusion.

“At the beginning of the race Quartararo and Rodrigo crashed and I dropped far back, but I was able to catch up with the leading group. When I latched onto them I continued climbing positions, but in my attempt to overtake Mir I made a mistake –I was too late on the brakes and I couldn’t avoid hitting Bastianini. The crash was very spectacular but I escaped unhurt; it was a shame and I can only apologize to Juanfran Guevara and the team, who have done a great job all weekend.”
