Brad Binder’s serves for his first match point in the Moto3 World Championship at Motorland tomorrow but the two men closest to him in the standings, Enea Bastianini and Jorge Navarro, will launch their resistance from the front two positions on the grid after another dramatic qualifying session this afternoon.

The South African was one of several riders to see his attempts at a fast lap thwarted by riders waiting on track for a tow, costing him the opportunity to fight for pole with Bastianini and Navarro. However, Binder will start from the second row in fifth position after qualifying six tenths off the pace of the Italian. Aron Canet completes the front row, with Binder to be flanked by Philipp Öttl and Livio Loi on row two.

Both Mahindra Gaviota Aspar riders are looking to make up positions in the race after qualifying eleventh and twentieth today. Hindered by the long back straight at Motorland, one of the longest in the championship, Jorge Martín and Pecco Bagnaia are working hard to make up for the lost tenths in the first three sectors of the track.

Spaniard Martin will start from the middle of the fourth row after clocking a best lap of 1’59.032 and he is hoping for a large group at the front, which will aid his quest to recover positions.

With 20 laps of the Aragón circuit to come tomorrow, there is plenty of time for the Mahindra Gaviota Aspar rider to achieve his objectives.

11th Jorge Martín 1.59.032 (13 laps):
“It is difficult to set a fast lap time in this heat, we suffer quite a lot and I am losing a lot of time on the back straight, which is a critical sector for us. I think we can improve tomorrow and fight in the group but today I had to try and find a perfect lap, with slipstreams, and even though I wasn’t fast I set a decent time. Hopefully it is a group race so that I can make the most of our speed in the first three sectors and then hang in to fight with the guys at the front.”
