The Red Bull KTM Tech3 duo of Ayumu Sasaki and Deniz Öncü faced a scorching start to the second round of the 2020 Moto3 World Championship today at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto.

Although Sasaki didn’t have an ideal beginning to the weekend, he managed to improve during the hotter Free Practice two this afternoon to eventually finish 0.448 seconds behind the provisional Q2 entries. Meanwhile, Öncü continued to regain his feeling aboard the KTM machine, concluding day one half a second behind his teammate. The action resumes tomorrow at 9:00 local time with FP3.

Ayumu Sasaki

“Today it went a little bit better than during the test on Wednesday, although I started off quite bad with a crash in the beginning of the first practice and in FP1 the conditions have been better than in the afternoon. So, we lost some precious time this morning. But the team did a great job to fix the bike and in FP2 we had a great feeling. We need to work a little bit more, but we are getting closer. Now in FP3 we need to try to do a good lap in order to be in Q2.”

Deniz Öncü

“Today was very hard for me. Actually, when I arrived here in Jerez I expected more than this. I’m struggling to ride the bike, so we are trying to improve the setup to adapt it to me. We already came closer, but I hope tomorrow, we can fix everything, so I can go faster.”
