The Red Bull KTM Tech3 duo of Ayumu Sasaki and Deniz Öncü delivered an amazing performance in today’s FP3 to qualify directly for Q2 at the Gran Premio Red Bull de España, in P11 and P13 respectively. During the boiling Qualifying at midday, they both struggled to improve on their fastest lap. Yet, Sasaki eventually finished in P17, Öncü followed directly behind his teammate as the second fastest rookie of the field.

Sunday’s Moto3 action is set to go ahead at 8:20 local time with a short Warm Up session, before the red lights go off for the second time in 2020 at 11:00 local time.

Ayumu Sasaki

“We managed to do another step today, especially in FP3. We could enter Q2 directly. The bike was working very well in Qualifying, so I had a great base. But I made a mistake with my strategy myself, so I couldn’t get one fast really good lap time. I have to admit, that I’m a little bit disappointed about this session. Now I try to think about what I can do in the race and try to improve my position as much as possible.”

Deniz Öncü

“Today was a good day for me. On Wednesday and yesterday, I struggled to adapt to the bike after so long time off it. So, today was the first time, I understood the feeling on the bike again. I was happy to get directly to Q2 and the lap time was quite fast. In Qualifying I managed to do only one fast lap time, after doing a mistake on the lap before. I wanted to push in the end, but on the second last lap I ran into traffic and the following one, I did another mistake, so I couldn’t improve on my 18th position. I will still start from the sixth row tomorrow, so I’m confident we can have a good race.”
