Rodrigo and Alcoba both in the points in Jerez

Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 played a big role in today’s Moto3 encounter at Jerez, although the results do not give them justice: Gabriel Rodrigo was seventh at the line, with Jeremy Alcoba down in 15th position.

The Spanish rookie, who qualified in sixth place, was showing a great level of form and for big parts of the race he was running near the front with the best in the category, even battling for the top spot towards the halfway point of the encounter. Then a bit too many mistakes and a penalty inflicted to him with two laps to go have dealt a big blow to Alcoba’s performance. The only point scored surely left a bitter taste in his mouth especially after what he managed to show on track, but surely there will be another chance to make amends very, very soon.

Gabriel Rodrigo had a more of a ‘safe’ approach – it that can even be possible in a Moto3 race – with the Argentine who came very close to entering the top five, but a collision with a rival prevented him from battling for the podium in the final laps. The #2 rider of Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 is currently sixth in the general standings with 19 points.

GABRIEL RODRIGO

“It’s been a very difficult race and after such a long time this is a good result. There have been a lot of battles, some of them very aggressive and maybe that was the reason I couldn’t fight for the podium. We had a great pace, but with five laps to go I had a coming together with another rider and went from fifth to tenth. I tried to get back into the podium battle, but time was too short. I’m still happy: we’ll use all the information we have to seek ‘revenge’ next week, still at this track!”

JEREMY ALCOBA

“We did a great job and the bike was perfect. We battled hard and I learned a lot. Unfortunately I was too eager to do well and the inexperience in the series kind of tricked me; we could have been at the front for the whole race. I also had a coming together towards the end which made me lose touch and the penalty then gave me the final blow. The result doesn’t reflect at all what we did this weekend but we learned a lot about how to manage the race.”
