Difficult time for Rodrigo and Alcoba at Montmeló

 In Moto3, News

A disappointing race for Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 in Catalunya as Gabriel Rodrigo and Jeremy Alcoba who could not finish higher than 10th and 19th respectively. It was a long race, with significantly lower temperatures compared to yesterday, and in these conditions neither of the two riders was able to leave a mark.

Rodrigo was able to battle in the leading group for two thirds of the race before dropping down the order in the final laps, and due to a small mistake in the last sector he ultimately lost touch with the leading pack with no chance of bridging the gap. Alcoba endured a difficult race, with the #52 receiving a six-second penalty at the finish line for not observing a double long lap penalty during the race.

One more week or so to go to rest, charge up and come up with a new plan for the Le Mans race – which takes place on the October 10-11 weekend.

Gabriel Rodrigo:

“I had a bit of chattering at the front-end and in the early laps I had to adapt to the bike to reduce the movement. From halfway onwards and with worn tyres, the chatter kind of went away. Unfortunately I was suffering a bit too much in the last sector and because I was getting slower and slower exiting the last corner, I was unable to get in the slipstream and take advantage of it. With five laps to go I made a small mistake, but that was enough to take me out of the battle ahead of me. In the last lap then I tucked the front while trying to pass Masia and Vietti and lost some pore places… 6th or 10th doesn’t make much difference, because we’re aiming at very different results.”

Jeremy Alcoba:

“I surely had a great bike and probably the pace to stay with the leaders. I stayed where I wanted, thinking I had the tyre and the pace for the final part of the race. Then the penalty came without warning and I’m not sure where it came from because I don’t think I made any mistake. I’m sorry for the team and I’m very disappointed.”
