Double retirement for Marco Bezzecchi and Luca Marini at Aragon GP

 In Moto2, News

A difficult day for the Sky Racing Team VR46 at Alcaniz where the Aragon GP was held today. Marco Bezzecchi was victim of a crash two laps from the checkered flag when he was in first position. Luca Marini was also forced to retire due to an accident in the initial stages of the race.

At the start from the second place on the grid, Marco immediately took the lead, impressing with his pace and consistency. In P1 two laps from the end, he crashed, compromising the final result.

A similar fate for Luca, seventh on the grid and fighting for the top 5, who was forced to retire during the third lap due to an accident. After today’s zero, he moved to the third position in the general standings with 150 points, while the leadership among the Teams was confirmed (280 points).

Luca Marini:

A bad race for the whole Team and I’m really sorry for all the guys. On my side, we didn’t make the most of Friday, I was still feeling the after-effects of Le Mans and I wasn’t able to do the job I wanted. In the FP3 I had a problem on the bike, we were late and I was forced to follow my opponents. I tried to start well, not to lose contact with the group and stay in the positions around the top 5 before the mistake. We have to analyze the data, but I probably entered the corners ½ kilometers per hour faster than the other laps and lost the front. I am disappointed, but I am happy to be back on track here next week. We have a lot of data that we can use.

Marco Bezzecchi:

I’m really sad: we have been strong all the weekend, it was a great race, we were able to impose our pace and this final is really hard to accept now. We have to analyze the data, understand what happened and get back at work hard for the next GP.
