Lecuona scores points in Aragon as Oliveira fights bravely
Starting the 10th race of the 2020 MotoGP World Championship season from P15, premier class rookie Iker Lecuona lost a bit of ground on the first lap, which he concluded in 19th. Step by step the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider found his rhythm at the MotorLand Aragón circuit to climb up to 17th by the end of the third lap. While gaining confidence, he moved even further ahead to eventually clinch 14th on the line.
In the meantime, Miguel Oliveira was unable to find his usual great feeling aboard the KTM RC16 throughout all the weekend. He commenced the race well, making up several places at the start, but was fighting with blunt weapons for 23 exhausting laps at the Spanish venue to finally cross the line in 16th. Yet, the Portuguese still sits inside the top 10 of the overall standings.
“I’m honestly really happy. This morning in the Warm Up I felt good and had a decent pace, so I knew it would be possible to fight close to the top 10. Finally, I lost some positions in the first laps of the race and it was very difficult to manage. Later I was behind Miguel for many laps and tried so save my tyres for the end of the race. It was a good idea, as Miguel pushed a lot and we could reduce the gap to the front race. Finally, I passed Miguel and pushed with this extra grip. I’m very satisfied with my race, as it was very consistent and strong.”
“It was a tough race. At least, I felt competitive in the first half of the race, later it was quite difficult for me to manage the tyre. I finished it quite quick and started to lose time. It was quite hard for me just to finish the race. For sure, I think our potential to improve is quite high. So we will try to focus on that and just do our best for next weekend.”
