Second place after fight back for García, Yamanaka 15th in Valencia

Last week Sergio García claimed second position after starting from seventh. This time around, he achieved the same final result, only from 17th on the grid. The Repsol Moto3 rider took his second podium of the year, with both having come at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia. His teammate, Ryusei Yamanaka, claimed a point after finishing 15th.

In a very fast race, García gained several positions on the opening laps, slotting into the front group. With five laps remaining he was among the trio of riders competing for the podium places and, after an intense fight on the last two laps with Raúl Fernández, crossed the finish line in second place, behind race winner Tony Arbolino.

Ryusei Yamanaka also started from far back on the grid – 20th – but was able to steadily gain positions during the race. Finally, the Japanese rider scored further points in the Moto3 World Championship by finishing 15th.

With this result, Sergio García is twelfth in the overall standings, with 77 points. Ryusei Yamanaka is 24th, with 14.

The final round of the Moto3 World Championship will be held next weekend, from November 20th-22nd, at the Autódromo Do Algarve in Portimao.

Sergio García:

“It’s been a super positive day. I went out for the warmup and I knew we were in good shape and that we could fight for the win, so in the race I didn’t even think twice about it and passed other riders until I reached the front group. Once I caught Arbolino, I waited in that position – saving my tyres – and I did it again: A second place at this second race in Valencia.”

Ryusei Yamanaka:

“Our start wasn’t bad, but the opening laps were difficult because I made contact with several riders and I had to modify my line. At that point some other riders passed me. After that I tried to regain positions, but it wasn’t easy. I couldn’t reach the front group, but I finally got a point and I’m happy with that, although I could have achieved a little more.”
