Vierge battles hard to take 13th at Valencia

Xavi Vierge, the sole PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider in the intermediate class at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, experienced a difficult Moto2 race with bike issues preventing him from moving through the field. Vierge ended the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana 13th.

Vierge had a good start and was able to gain two places into the opening corners of the Moto2 race, to move into 11th on the first lap. The Spaniard battled hard with those riders around him but had fallen to 13th just before the halfway point of the 25-lap race.

The second half of the race saw Xavi continue to fight with those riders around him, in an attempt to move his Triumph-powered Kalex through the field. Despite his best efforts, Vierge experienced some problems with his bike and was unable to improve and crossed the finish line 13th.

There will be no rest for Xavi who will face the final round of the 2020 Moto2 championship, the Grande Prémio de Portugal (20-22 November), in just a few days’ time at Algarve International Circuit.

Xavi Vierge:

I’m a bit disappointed with today’s race because we worked so hard all weekend, trying a lot of different things. We had a good pace yesterday but something changed in today’s race and I wasn’t able to maintain a good rhythm. I gave everything I had from the first lap until the last, but we were missing some acceleration compared to others, and it was not enough. I lost some time during the race and it was difficult to make it back. We have positives from this weekend though, as we were able to try a lot of things with the bike. We focus now on Portimäo, which is a track I have ridden at in the past and enjoyed, and hopefully we will solve this issue and fight for a good result in the final race of the year.
