Top 10 finish for Di Giannantonio, 17th for Bulega at #DohaGP
Needless to say that expectations were a bit higher for the Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 Team today in what was the second and last Qatari race of the season. On one side of the garage there was the desire to make amends for a sub-par performance, while on the other there was confidence of a possible repeat of a podium performance after last week’s result.
Things did not go according to plan, though: Fabio Di Giannantonio, who had a much better start compared to the previous race, was not able to find the pace to stay with the leaders and even though he was able to lead the chasing pack for several laps, he had to surrender to a lack of rear-end grip. The Italian was 10th at the line nevertheless, as he grabbed some useful points for the championship standings.
Nicolò Bulega had a very similar race to the one that took place seven days ago. The #11 rider could not find the right feeling with the Kalex machine #11 as he dropped down to 20th place and then finished 17th, three seconds away from the top 15. Portimao is in two weeks’ time.
FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO:
“A real shame: we started well and I was trying to build up my pace ahead of the chasing pack. Unfortunately we made a wrong choice with the final gear and on we were losing a lot of time on the straight, which made us defenseless when under attack. We must stay positive: we’re leaving Qatar with 21 points and one podium… it could have been worse.”
“Today we were very unlucky. Unfortunately once again a technical problem left us outside the positions that count. We will analyse what happened, but we’re getting better even though our results don’t show it.”
