The Valresa GASGAS Aspar Team fought for the podium until the last lap of the Portuguese Grand Prix, with a brilliant Sergio García Dols competing in the leading group at all times. The Spanish rider has adapted to the GASGAS and after fourth place in the Qatar Grand Prix he arrived in Portugal wanting for more. García started from the front row thanks to his good time in qualifying practice and throughout the race his worst position while crossing the line was sixth. However, in the last lap, when he was fighting for the podium, a touch from another rider left him without options and he had to settle for eighth, behind the leader of the category and winner today Pedro Acosta. Dennis Foggia and Andrea Migno got into the podium with the Spanish rider.

Izan Guevara was completing a good weekend at a track that has never been among his favourites, and in the race, he has gotten pretty close to the leading group. However, on the eighth lap, he has not been able to avoid the fall of another rider in front of him and he has crashed also, losing his options to continue climbing and to close a grand prix again with results like those of Qatar, where he was sixth and seventh. The Valresa GASGAS Aspar riders will return to the track on the weekend of May, 2 at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit.

8th Sergio García Dols (+1,245):
“Compared to the times we’d been doing this weekend; it was a really fast race. Such a pity about the touch I had from behind on the last lap. I almost crashed but it ruined my race then because I was 3rd or 4th with options to fight for the podium.”

24th Izan Guevara (+1:08.552):
“The race was going well until we had that contact with another rider. I’d made up distance quite well and was with the front group. I had a good rhythm and was running low 48s. The bike was also working better and was more comfortable for me. I’m not sure if I could have gone for the podium but I was pushing hard to be there. With six-seven laps to go it was over. There was nothing I could do and I had to finish the race with a bent handlebar.”
