Steady #SpanishGP for Petrucci and Lecuona

With P19 in qualifying, Tech3 KTM factory Racing’s Danilo Petrucci launched off the Gran Premio Red Bull de España from row seven of the grid. With a decent start the Italian saw the line in P17 after lap one. Keeping a consistent rhythm throughout the 25 lap competition, he made up a few positions and eventually took home two more Championship points with 14th.

Yet, Iker Lecuona lined up in P21 on the grid and passed three riders at the start to finish lap one in 18th. Like his teammate he managed to hold onto his pace and went even quicker during the final laps of the race. The Spaniard saw the chequered flag in 15th and scored the final point of the MotoGP World Championship field.

Danilo Petrucci:

“It was a difficult race, but we managed to take some points. We are still trying to find a good setup on the bike. We have to manage to use this tyre, as we are quite slow at the beginning of the race and able to do a good pace later. For sure, it was hard, because we were already far from the front guys quite early on. Anyway, it was one more race to gain experience.

Tomorrow there’s the test here and we can try something new. For sure, this is not the position we want, but we are working very hard to improve the bike and to fight closer to the front. I would like to thank all my team for their hard work. We have to continue like this and I’m sure the results will come.”

Iker Lecuona:

“Honestly, I’m quite happy. I worked very hard during the race and also the team worked very hard to improve during this weekend and to help me. I’m satisfied, because I finished inside the points and I did a lot to achieve this.

I also learned a lot during the race, because I lost contact to Danilo and I managed to recover and nearly pass him on the last lap, but he was braking very late. Finally, I finished in P15, but I’m quite delighted I think I regained the confidence to go fast. Finally, I want to dedicate this race to my mum, because today is Mother’s Day in Spain.”
