The second night of free practice at the Grand Prix of Qatar took place tonight with a solitary outing for the Moto3 riders after their double session last night. Slightly improved track conditions made for slightly improved lap times in the Moto3 category, although they are still some way off lap record pace.

Miguel Oliveira and Danny Kent again dominated at the top of the time sheets but the gaps between the rest of the riders tightened and by the end of this evening’s action there was less than a second covering the top thirteen riders. With slipstreams down the long Losail straight sure to play an important part, tomorrow night’s qualifying is sure to be a close affair.

MAPFRE Team Mahindra rookie Jorge Martín struggled this evening from the effects of a crash yesterday, whilst Juanfran Guevara encountered some front-end chatter after making some set-up changes, but both riders are confident of producing their best form in tomorrow’s grid shootout.

20th Jorge Martín 2.07.865 (14 laps):
“I was feeling my back a bit today after the crash last night. I have had a couple of massages in the Clinica so hopefully the pain subsides tomorrow so that I can ride more comfortably. We tried to get as many laps in as we could today to unlock some of the secrets of this track but I didn’t feel comfortable on the bike, I was struggling to get it turned into the corners and follow the others. Anyway I am calm and confident that the team will help me tomorrow. My confidence has taken a little knock but it’s only a matter of time and I am sure we will be back to our best tomorrow.”

21st Juanfran Guevara 2.07.968 (15 laps):
“We made some set-up changes to try and gain some speed in the fast corners and at first they seemed to have worked but then we got some chatter on the front. So we had to try and work out where that was coming from and whilst we think we have an idea now we need to check tomorrow. I am sure that once we put that right I will feel much more comfortable on the bike and I will be able to brake with much more confidence. We also need to find some more traction under acceleration so tomorrow is an important day. We will have to work against the clock to be ready for qualifying.”
