Julian Simon Aiming For Yet Further Improvement At Misano

Bike fans are in for a treat this weekend because less than a week after packing their cases in the USA the teams and riders will be unpacking them in readiness for the San Marino Grand Prix. The Adriatic coast plays host to the second round of the season on Italian soil, the twelfth in all for the year, and in Moto2 the battle for victory is wide open with Stefan Bradl’s iron grip on the championship loosening slightly in recent weeks. His advantage at the top has been cut back to just 28 points by Marc Marquez although there is an army of Italian riders also looking to take victory on home soil, as well as the returning force of Julián Simón. The Spaniard showed at Indianapolis that he is ready to reassert his position as one of the fastest riders in the category.

MAPFRE Aspar rider Simón gave an example of great courage as well as returning strength last Sunday, battling to make up positions over 28 laps and finishing in touching distance of the lead group. Even though he is still in some pain from his recent injuries Julián is hopeful of a similar performance this weekend at a circuit where he celebrated victory in 2009 and second place last year. Jordi Torres continues his Grand Prix education at another new circuit. The Spanish rookie knows he has the right team and bike to be successful and he is determined to break into the points positions this weekend.

Julián Simón:
“Last weekend’s result has given me a lot of motivation ahead of the next race in San Marino. I like Misano a lot and the past two seasons there have been very positive for me – I won in 2009 and finished second last year. It should be a good circuit for me in terms of my physical condition because there are a lot of braking points and even though they are not too heavy they suit me. I put together a good fightback last Sunday and finished up with a good result so my aim is to build on that. The Indianapolis race gives us a lot of confidence. We more than met our objective for that race and even though I was shattered and in a lot of pain at the end I am sure I will feel better at Misano, especially because it is not as demanding a circuit.”

Jordi Torres:
“There is no time to rest with two races so close together, so now we will see the benefit of all the training we do over the course of the season. We go straight to Misano, another circuit I have never even been to in my life but one I am looking forward to learning. I have heard it’s pretty cool and not as demanding as some of the others. I guess everything will be much closer there so we will have to push hard from the first session. The team is doing a brilliant job and the bike is perfect so I am feeling very calm about it. This is not an easy category but I am getting there and as soon as I manage to become more decisive in qualifying and start stronger in the races I am sure our results will take a big leap forward.”
