Nico Terol adds five points to tally with eleventh place, whilst Jordi Torres places thirteenth for three points

Splendid sunshine at Silverstone greeted the Moto2 riders on race day, although temperatures failed to rise to above 16 degrees Celsius ahead of the opening race of the British Grand Prix.

The warmup session concluded with one rider unable to participate in race and a strange atmosphere amongst the field. When the lights went out in the race itself, Scott Redding took charge of his home contest. Only Takaaki Nakagami and Thomas Luthi could match his pace –somewhat slower than the 2’07s set in practice.

Nakagami later took over the lead, but Redding responded three laps later to take a popular victory. Nakagami placed second, with Luthi third to complete the final Moto2 podium of the summer triple-header.

Nico Terol concluded a difficult weekend with the best result that he could manage, adding five points to his World Championship tally despite various setbacks. Yesterday he qualified eleventh, with hopes of resolving a front end issue this morning.

However, in the warmup session he experienced a clutch issue which altered his plans. In the race, he held eleventh place on the grid to convert it into a points-scoring finish.

Jordi Torres had suffered two crashes yesterday, and was involved in a warmup collision on Sunday morning. He was able to take the start, and got off the line well. Unfortunately, contact with another rider almost took him out of the race, and the MAPFRE Aspar rider took things cautiously from then on.

He had dropped down some ten places before the end of the opening lap. He was, however, able to recover some of those places –finishing thirteenth at Silverstone and earning himself three points.

11th Nico Terol:
“Today was a strange day, because we started the day with clutch problems in the warm-up session. I’ve was only able to complete two laps and I didn’t manage to find my pace. We wanted to finish trying out a couple of solutions but it wasn’t to be. In the race I made a good start, our problem with the clutch improved, but I didn’t have the same confidence as usual. I struggled to feel comfortable this weekend, and during the race things were no different. Despite losing touch with the group shortly after the start, I pushed hard to keep my position and at least I could take eleventh in the end. I’m happy because the team worked flawlessly, as always, and I tried to give everything I had in all of the practice sessions. Now it is time relax a bit after the three consecutive races and hopefully be back on top again at Misano.”

13th Jordi Torres:
“We came into the race with a new setup for the front forks, one that we had tried during the warmup session. We also played around with the geometry of the rear wheel, which gave us confidence for the race. I started well alongside Nico, but on the first corner someone clipped my bike on the inside line and I lost a lot of positions on the opening lap. Luckily I managed to keep upright. Overall the race was tough, as starting like that left me shaken. As the laps went by I noticed that the bike was vibrating a lot, and that diminished my confidence a little. Nevertheless I recovered some positions but I reached a point in which I was far away from the group ahead and was riding by myself.”
