Marc Márquez, reigning World 125cc Champion, has been awarded the National Prize granted by her Royal Highness, Letizia, Princess of Asturias. The panel of judges chosen by the Higher Sports Council gave him the National Prize for Best Sportsman under 18 who made the most outstanding progress during 2010.

The Repsol rider, who startled the world in 2010 by smashing all the records for the youngest rider held by other racing giants in this speciality, was the brilliant winner of the world 125cc title, winning ten races in just one season. At the age of just 17 Márquez has become a star around the world and this is what has brought him the recognition of the Higher Sports Council.

The prize will be handed over by the King of Spain on 28th February in the Palacio de El Pardo.

Marc Márquez: “This is a great honour for me, because after such an exceptional year like 2010, to receive an award like this makes it even more special if possible. I am very proud of being part of this great era in Spanish sport, and motorcycling in particular, and I want to thank those that thought I am worthy of such an award”.
