Pol Espargaro was left without a point in his career debut in Moto2 at the Grand Prix of Qatar, finishing in 22nd place after difficult practice sessions. He is in the process of get used to the new category and had to made up for a poor start which kept him from riding with a faster group to improve his laptimes. The HP Tuenti rider made up nine positions in the race, but didn’t manage to go faster than in practice.
The next race will take place within two weeks in Jerez de la Frontera for the Spanish Grand Prix where Pol Espargaro hopes to further reduce the gap to the veterans and fastest riders of Moto2.

22. POL ESPARGARÓ: “Finishing outside the points is not the dream debut, and even less so after a year being used to fighting for victory and podium finishes in many races, but after the practice session I knew it would be very difficult to score points in the first race. My main disappointment is that I didn’t do a good start and I lost several positions which kept me from hanging on to the group that was running in 2.02s which would have surely helped me a lot in my learning process with this new bike. Also the bike had a lot of bumping at the front and rhythm has been below my expectations. We have time to keep progressing and in two weeks at Jerez I hope to move forward. I’ll keep working hard and I have no doubt that I will be competitive in this new category where any minor mistake can be cost you a lot.”
