Salom satisfied with strong fourth in Valencia qualifying

What to do: rain tyres or slicks? That was the big question for all the 125 riders in qualifying for the Valencia Grand Prix. On the drying track of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit the matter caused big differences and continuous changes. It made Luis Salom go from place 20 to 3 and back.

In the end only Danny Webb and Luis Rossi had the guts to use slicks in the final laps. Therefore the gap between Webb on pole position and Salom in fourth is more than three seconds. Salom was far from happy with that. “The gap is too big,” he said. “But I didn’t dare to take the risk on slicks. The racing line was not dry everywhere. I took the safe option. Especially in the final fast laps you already take more risks. I wasn’t confident enough I could do it on slicks.”

With his fourth position on the grid for the final 125 race ever the Spanish rider for RW Racing GP was satisfied. “In fact I only have Johann Zarco in front of me. We are faster than Webb and Rossi. There is much at stake for Zarco: he still has an eye on the world title. He will need to get away as soon as possible and I will do anything to stay with him. I always race for the podium, but I would really like to win this last race. I will give my very best to get that win.”
