It was without a doubt the best weekend for the Argiñano Racing Team so far this season. Ricky Cardús equaled his best qualifying result from Portugal and also scored his season-best race result and three points.

In the warmup on Sunday morning Cardús posted his best laptime of the weekend with a 1’26.570 which he would improve to 1’26.273 in the race. The session was crucial to finalize the setup of the bike and make the tyre choice for the race.

Ricky started from 12th position on the grid, but did a bad start and crossed the line down in 20th position after the first lap. He spent the next few laps in the positions between 19th and 22nd, but moved up to 18th with a consistent comeback until the middle of the race. In lap 17 he made up three places and caught up with a group which was intermittently fighting for the positions up to 11th. Finally Ricky passed at the right moments and pushed his points total up to four. He finished 28 seconds behind eventual victor Marc Marquez.

The next round will be at the Mugello circuit in Italy next weekend.

Ricky Cardús, 13º: “A very hard race and it exhausted me a lot. Since Friday we were working well, although with crashes. We didn’t lose our cool and we rode a lot and always thinking about the race. Since Assen the team upped their dedication and support another notch. I asked for the new subchassis and I got it and here we could adapt well, I felt more suited to the bike. We have a better Moto2 bike than we think, but we need to keep progressing. Now I have to train the start and the first laps well, I don’t want to ruin a weekend at the start.

Today I was more aggressive in the race, previously it was more difficult for me to pass and the head-to-head fights. With the latest modification it’s more put together, I can use the brake better and break until the inside of the corner like the others.

Next weekend we’re at Mugello, a very fast track with a very long straight, and there you have the same problems, but who doesn’t? We’re motivated, the team helps me a lot. Gorka, Iker, Amaia, Joan, Dani, Kepa y Álex… thank you. And also thanks to Karlos and Ginés, I hope you’re satisfied.”
