Salom grits teeth to qualify for third row
The crash he suffered in the second free practice pursued Luis Salom in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix. RW Racing GP’s top rider seemed to walk away unhurt from the crash, but woke up battered and bruised with pain all over his body.
In the morning session of the second day on the demanding Mugello circuit he decided not to push too hard to find out what the least painful position on the bike was. In qualifying he had to push as hard as he could. With much pain in his right foot Salom brought the bike to the ninth position on the grid for the race tomorrow.
Luis Salom (9th): ,,Because of the crash yesterday I’m not fit. My right foot is hurting pretty much. Therefore it was difficult to find my rhythm in qualifying and do a series of equal lap times. I’m happy enough with ninth.’’
Team manager Johan Stigefelt: “This session was not so bad. Unfortunately Luis has pain which makes is hard to find a rhythm. Mugello is a difficult and physically demanding track. We just hope he gets a good night sleep and feels a better for the race. Brad did well. He worked hard and had some bad luck in finding a tow.”
