Salom takes excellent front row start despite injury scare after heavy practice crash

Luis Salom gave RW Racing GP its best qualifying result ever with an excellent front row start on the grid at Aragon. Salom set the fastest lap time twice but lost his provisional pole position to Jonas Folger in the last seconds of the qualifying session.

Salom did a nearly perfect lap in the unexpected dry conditions in Aragon. Only in the last section he left a few thousands of a second. The achievement was extra special since Salom had a big crash in the mornings free practice, after he went out on cold tires. A huge highsider left him with a sore and bruised body.

Luis Salom (2nd): “I obviously had a very good qualifying practice. It’s just a pity I lost the pole to Folger, but I can’t complain about that. The bike feels good and I feel confident for the race, in dry as well as wet circumstances. This morning I had an issue with the fuel. The bike stopped and I had to go back in. My crew was able to repair it quickly, but the tires had become too cold. I got back out and immediately crashed. Luckily it did not affect qualifying.”

Team manager Johan Stigefelt: “I feel so sorry for Brad. He needed the time out in the dry. The first laps of the race are going to be very risky because there is a lot of overtaking to do. And for Luis I am very happy and proud. He did a great job.”
