Luis Salom crashes out on final lap of Japanese GP
Luis Salom, starting from the second row of the grid, immediately worked his way to the front and took the lead. Together with Jonas Folger and Danny Kent he changed positions in the leading group. With also Sandro Cortese and Maverick Viñales joining the group a bunch of six, seven riders entered the final lap. When Salom, in fourth, tried to outbreak Alessandro Tonucci for third he made a mistake. In his move he had to break harder than he expected and couldn’t hold the bike. In his crash he took out Jonas Folger, who was leading the race.
Nobody got hurt but Salom got a penalty for his mistake. He has to start the Malaysian GP next weekend five places down the grid from his qualifying position.
Luis Salom (DNF):
“It is a pity and I am really sorry for Jonas Folger, but it was not on purpose. I was fighting for victory and just made a mistake. It was a racing incident. I am back to third in the championship standings. That’s the worse.”
