Tricky day for Espargaro, Rabat and Pons in Sepang rain

 In Moto2, News

Tuenti Móvil HP 40 rider Pol Espargaro could not enjoy any real advantage from his pole position and the pace he found in the dry due to the rain, despite the fact that Marc Marquéz’ crash pushed the championship open again. Pol crossed the line in 11th, Tito Rabat in 10th and Axel Pons in 14th place.

The three riders of the Tuenti Móvil 40 HP managed to get into the points in a very chaotic race that was suspended due to heavy rain four laps from the end. Tito Rabat was 10th, Pol Espargaró 11th and the 5 points, together with the crash of Marc Marquéz, mathematically keep the Moto2 title open.

Axel Pons has again gained points, two on this occasion, doing so for the third time this year and the second time in a row.

TITO RABAT
I felt very comfortable on the bike and gained confidence in the wet from lap to lap, in conditions where this year I’ve not really been doing too well. I made a good start, my lap times kept coming down and I overtook other riders one by one. I would have preferred a race in the dry because I had a good pace, but the rain fell and we did surprisingly well.

POL ESPARGARÓ
All the work of the weekend has pretty much been for nothing because in the rain we couldn’t show any of the good pace we had in the dry and that got us another pole position and the great rhythm. With the Kalex we still can’t go fast in the wet and we have to find a solution for the coming year. We are still in the run for the championship, but it’s a shame we couldn’t get more points today when Marc committed his error. My objective is to think about winning races and giving everything every time I’m out on the track. We’re having a great year, but we’ve been lacking the luck of champions to be closer to the title.

AXEL PONS
It’s been a difficult race due to the weather conditions and because we had very little data to set up the bike well in the wet. The team has done a great job, the bike’s been very stable and in the end we could gain some points. At the end of this championship we’ve been doing what we had hoped to do at the start. I’m confident and motivated to keep finishing in the points in these last two races of 2012.
