The last qualifying practice of the season was not a particularly happy one for Team San Carlo Honda Gresini, with Alvaro Bautista and Michele Pirro forced to settle for positions on the third and fifth row of the grid respectively.

Under blue skies and with a dry track this afternoon it was a disappointing way to prepare for the last race of the campaign but both riders are determined to finish it in better fashion tomorrow.

Alvaro Bautista was not at all satisfied with his qualifying after struggling with front-end feeling that kept pushing him wide as he rode through the turns. His gearbox set-up also needs further work, so he is pinning his hopes on a good morning warm-up session.

Alvaro Bautista (8th 1’32”585) “I am not very happy, because in our only dry session this weekend I didn’t have a good feeling with the front – in fact I had zero feeling. Whenever I tried to push it the bike ran wide in the corner and I was really struggling. We tried some different forks, but I didn’t get confidence from any of them. We also need to work with the gearbox setting, because I’m not happy with that either. Hopefully we can make the right set-up changes ahead of the warm-up tomorrow and find some confidence in corner entry.”

Fausto Gresini “As a team performance it was below expectations today and below our potential. In any case we have to keep working to achieve our main objective tomorrow, which is for Bautista to defend fifth place in the MotoGP championship and for Pirro to finish the season as the third best CRT.”
