Maverick Viñales breaks Jerez record during positive Moto3 test
The rain played a leading role in the second Moto3 test of this year. In the end, of 3 planned test days, only one could be enjoyed 100% with a dry track. And just like in Valencia, Maverick Viñales was the fastest rider on his JHK T-Shirt LaGlisse KTM, breaking the Jerez circuit record. Despite the team choosing not to go out today, Maverick could work on his KTM’s wet weather setting on the first day of rain.
His team mate Ana Carrasco continued with her good progression and got more and more adapted to her KTM in Jerez. The rider from Cehegín has again proven that in her first championship season she can be close to the fastest riders. And just like her companion she had the opportunity to get to know her bike better in the wet conditions on the first day.
The work of the JHK T-Shirt LaGlisse team now transfers to the team’s headquarters in Madrid where the technicians will finish fine-tuning the bikes before the next round of IRTA tests, again held in Jerez from 18th to 21st March.

The two days that we could ride we did very well. I liked it a lot and we worked very hard. The first day helped me to get to know this bike in the wet, and in the end I was very happy because we made a lot of progress and I felt very confident the whole time. In the dry the bike felt very good again, because even though we had small problems with the brakes we continued to set good times and overall topped the one from last year. I’m very happy with the work by the team and KTM, because even though little problems keep cropping up we’re maintaining the pace and we’re fixing what’s wrong.

I’m very happy because on the first day we could ride this bike, which is very different from mine last year, in the wet for the first time. We worked hard on the optimisation of the set up and my riding and I believe we achieved a good time in the end. Yesterday in the dry I also went well. We did improve the time a little but our work mainly focused more on finding a good race pace and therefore we worked a lot on the set up. I’m very happy with my progress and I want to thank the team who are helping me a lot and are doing a great job.
Jaime Fdez-Avilés (team manager)
I am very happy with the work both Maverick and Ana have done these three days.
Each day they’re closer to the team and also know the bike better. It’s also been important to be able to work in wet conditions because for both this was a first on the KTM. I believe we’re having a great preseason and it’s visible in the steep learning curve of Maverick with his new bike and team. Now we’ll continue work at the headquarters to iron out small issues to be top prepared for the next IRTA tests in March.
