Oliveira back to work at sunny Jerez after sitting out rainy Tuesday
After yesterday’s heavy rains which made Miguel Oliveira and Mahindra Racing opt not to run due the high risks and the low probabilities of progress, the young Portuguese took good advantage of the considerable weather improvement to get back to work this Wednesday in Jerez de la Frontera with his MGP3O bike in the last official IRTA pre-season test before the start of the 2013 MotoGP World Championship.
As it was the case in the first day of work, the youngster from Almada focused on the development of the bike and on the evaluation of several set-ups with the aim of having his machine in the best possible conditions for the first race of the year to be held in just over a fortnight on April 7th in Qatar, under the Losail International Circuit’s floodlights.
The Portuguese rider ended the day in 13th, 1.480s from the top. Even so, he was pleased with the work done, mostly because he was back among the top 5 during the first sessions.
Miguel Oliveira “Today started quite well and we managed to be always among the top five in the first and second sessions. In the afternoon our objective was to test more set-ups which are totally different from those we had already tested, to try to find a way to solve some of the discomfort we had with the chassis.
We ended up by not being as fast as we would have liked; in the end we tried to do a fast lap, but we were not successful. Anyway, tomorrow the weather is expected to be quite good again, which is something positive. We will proceed this work and try to focus on a faster lap time to check if new problems arise, in order to improve even more the machine before Qatar.”
