Disappointing day one in Le Mans for the Tuenti HP 40 riders Pol, Tito and Axel
Today the performance of Tito Rabat, Pol Espargaró and Axel Pons teamed up with the sky, gloomy and dull and without really leaving anyone satisfied.
The 3 riders of the Tuenti HP 40 team couldn’t fulfil the expectations on the first day or free practice sessions at the French GP, which as always is being held at the fantastic Le Mans circuit.
Tito Rabat, who arrived in France as the championship leader, suffered an accident in the afternoon when he was putting down the fastest lap, and in the end had to accept a 14th place.
Pol Espargaró, who could not solve his problems with the lack of grip of the rear tyre, set the 7th fastest time.
Axel Pons could not get the right feel on the bike at any time and finds himself in 27th position with plenty of work to do on the set up of the bike.
The forecast for the next days show wet conditions, further complicating the work of the whole team to get the bikes prepared as best as possible to get a good result.
7. Pol Espargaró, 1.38.907
I continue to have the problem with the lack of grip at the rear that already caused me such big headaches in Jerez. In the morning I felt ok and I could set a good lap and the pace was also good. In the afternoon we made a couple of changes to try and improve things but it seems we made a step backwards. We have to improve and at the same time we have to keep an eye on the weather, an additional opponent at this track every year.
14. Tito Rabat, 1.39.203
I crashed when setting the fastest time in the first two sectors and afterwards I just couldn’t get the confidence back. The bike reacted unexpectedly at one point and I just couldn’t keep it under control but luckily I haven’t hurt myself. We’ve started this GP with some problems, but we’re improving little by little. It’s been a shame to lose a good part of the second session, but we have to look forward and continue working hard to get the bike set up as good as possible, in the dry as well as the wet.
27. Axel Pons 1.40.056
I started the weekend on the completely wrong foot. The bike didn’t go well and I couldn’t get a good feeling either when riding. With these parameters it’s simple: the results have been bad. We have a lot of hard work to do tomorrow to try and prepare for the race as best as we possibly can to at least guarantee to finish in the points.
