Another podium for Maverick Viñales and Team Calvo
Maverick Viñales finished 3rd in the GP of Catalunya, gaining 16 valuable points for the championship. The Team Calvo rider could not hang on to the championship lead, but only 5 points separate him from Luis Salom.
The team improved the set up of the KTM during the morning’s warm up, but it wasn’t enough and after yesterday’s crash Maverick felt a bit sore as well. This third place is all the more important, there are 11 races left and every podium counts.
Starting from far back, Ana Carrasco has been fighting to make up positions during the entire race. The young Team Calvo rider could improve her times from the free practice sessions despite having problems with the rear tyre. Ana crossed the finish line as 22nd and gained more experience in her first year in the Moto3 championship.
#25 Maverick Viñales – 3rd place / @maverickmack25
My back hurts a bit from yesterday’s crash, but that’s no excuse. I think we lacked some pace compared to Salom and Rins, but after yesterday’s problems and missing a session, I believe we did a great race at home. At the end I gained 16 points for the championship which is very important. If the race had been two laps shorter, I think I could have attacked, but I was riding at the limit and preferred to finish the race in third than to risk a crash.
#22 Ana Carrasco – 22nd / @AnaCarrasco_22
I’m happy with the race because I improved my lap times from the free practice sessions, and overall I rode fast. For the race we used the same engine we used in Mugello and I don’t know if maybe there was a problem, but it didn’t work as well as it should have. Also I was lacking some rear grip, but I had fun battling during the race. Despite the problems we were fast, but like I’ve said before, we have to improve the performance on Saturdays, to give ourselves a better chance for Sundays.

It was very important to finish the race and to do so on the podium. Yesterday, Maverick suffered a heavy crash and today he was hurting a bit, therefore this result is very positive for the championship. In races where we have a chance to do so, we’ll fight for the win, but otherwise the focus should be to get as many points as possible because the championship is still long. Ana continues to improve, little by little, but every time she gets closer to getting her first points. I’d like to thank the sponsors, Calvo and JHK T-Shirt, who have been supporting us during the entire weekend.
