Strong start for Espargaro and Rabat at Brno, Pons suffers crash setback
The Tuenti HP 40 riders were once more the main players during the first two practice sessions on the opening day of the Czech Grand Prix at Brno. Both Pol Espargaró and Tito Rabat showed a great performance, staying in leading positions all day. Pol finished in third and Tito fourth. Axel Pons suffered a crash at the beginning of the afternoon session which caused him to miss a big part of the practice.
Both Pol and Tito were focused on setup work of their Kalex bikes ahead of the race on Sunday. Pol was on the sharp end of the time sheets until the final minutes of the session when he was eventually missing out on the best time of the day by only 0.082 seconds.
3º POL ESPARGARÓ, 2:03.31 “I am very happy with the practice, we were able to do a long run with a lot of laps and we gathered a lot of good information. I have a good feeling with the new tyres and I am very satisfied. We have to continue this way, always thinking about the race on Sunday. Trying to improve the setting of the bike go to the race with good chances.”
4º TITO RABAT, 2:03.45 “I’m happy with how it went. We were working with an eye on the race pace and to find a good setting for the bike. This is where we have to focus. We still have to decide with which tyre we’ll race, but it was a good practice in which we could get a lot of information for the race on Sunday.”
25º AXEL PONS, 2:04.89 “I had a crash at the start of the practice which completely ruined the work plan we had. The team repaired the bike very quickly and thanks to that I could still do 13 laps. At least I have some information to prepare tomorrow’s sessions, where I hope to be able to continue with the planned wok and get a good setting.”
