Maverick heads for Silverstone with high hopes

Maverick Viñales and Team Calvo are looking forward to set up camp at the legendary circuit of Silverstone, an old war-time airfield, often referred to as the heart of British motorsport.

The rider from Roses has fond memories of the track. At his previous two outings he secured a second place on his 125cc bike and last year he was victorious in an epic battle with fellow Moto3 rider Luis Salom. This weekend he hopes to be able to repeat this outcome on his Team Calvo KTM.

His young team mate Ana Carrasco faces many unknown factors. She’s never been to such a flat circuit before and all she’s been told is that it’s a very fast and very technical track. She hopes she can get to know the circuit quickly so she can spend time concentrating on the bike setup to be able to fight for a good starting position.

Silverstone is a very fast circuit and I like it a lot. In the past few years I always had good results here, and after the good race we did in Brno we’re arriving here with very high hopes and ambitions. From now on we have to be in attack-mode all the time and try to stay in front of Salom in all the remaining races. In the last one we were close, I’d already planned my overtaking manoeuvre, but I just couldn’t do it. We’ll see what happens here.

I know nothing about Silverstone, I’ve not even been able to look at it on the Playstation to see what it’s like. I’m looking forward to getting to know the track, I’ve been told it’s very fast and normally I like that a lot because it suits my style. The goal is to have a good qualifying so we can hope for a better outcome on Sunday. All the time I feel better on the bike, but we’re still not quite there with the setup. If we start from where we should be on Sunday, we can do well.

After 2 back-to-back races in which we got good results, we arrive at Silverstone where we have to step up another gear and chase victory. Maverick won here last year, he likes the circuit a lot and we’ll give him the best bike possible to fight for the win. For Ana it’s another new circuit and a track just as technical as Brno. But Anita likes fast corners and they have a few like that here in Silverstone.
