Bittersweet result for Maverick Viñales and Team Calvo at Silverstone

Everything seemed perfect for Sunday after Maverick Viñales dominated the free practice sessions and the qualifying, but the race was difficult and it just wasn’t meant to be.

The Team Calvo rider had opened a gap of almost 1 second between himself and the pursuing riders but in the end he could not fight for a podium finish, something unheard of this season, Maverick had not failed to accomplish this task before.

The team will analyze all data to try and understand why there was such a difference in the bike’s power between practice and race. Viñales keeps the provisional second place in the championship, 26 points behind Salom, but neither him nor Team Calvo have thrown the towel in yet, and in Misano they’ll try to get back to their winning ways.

Ana Carrasco finished 22nd after a race-long fight for positions in which she was able to regain many places in the group she was in. The young Team Calvo rider hopes to be able to improve her qualifying in Misano to be able to fight for points.

It was just not possible today. To be honest, we had a great pace and had done some great work all weekend. I don’t know what went wrong in the race. At the beginning all went really well, but then the power started to drop, that’s something we need to look at with KTM. But I am satisfied, we did our race, we gave the maximum, and we just couldn’t do any better with this bike today. All I know is that I couldn’t ride like I wanted to in any moment. But now we have to turn the page over and start thinking about Misano and about returning to fight for the win.

I believe we did a good race and we were able to pull back many positions, in a fairly fast group which meant I could improve on my qualifying time. I was riding very controlled within the group, but then one of the riders crashed and I lost touch a bit with the riders in front of me. I’m happy with the race part but I’m really annoyed that once again I couldn’t achieve the qualifying result yesterday that I should have. We have to improve on this and find a way to step up a gear on Saturdays to start from a bit further up.

It was a tough race. The whole weekend things have gone really well, we achieved the pole position and had an incredible pace, but even though we have to stay positive and see that we’re still in the race for the title, this isn’t a good result. But we have to remain optimistic because there are 6 races to go still and surely Maverick and the entire Team Calvo will fight with all we’ve got. Ana had a good race today, scrapping it out in a tight group. As always she was fighting till the last lap and on such a technical track I think the result is very positive.
